First trip to Savannah Georgia

It was nice being on an island that had a tropical feel to it.  Eating a shrimp burger at the bar of a restaurant while talking to a person with a great and energetic personality, and then going to the beach.  Walking along the pier and seeing all those people on the beach.  This island was definitely more tropical looking then the Florida Keys.  The only problem was that I wasn’t on some tropical island in the middle of the ocean, I was still in the United States, on Tybee Island in Savannah Georgia.  Don’t get me wrong, it was great being there and I love Tybee Island.

It was really hot in Savannah Georgia, so Unless you like the high heat, then you don’t want to go there in the month of May, I can imagine it would be perfect going there in the winter time since they shouldn’t get that much snow, if any.  The best time to be outside doing things is in the morning.  It is a shame it was soo hot out because Georgia is soo beautiful and there are lots of things to see.  I really do wish I could have seen more of Savannah.

If you are driving into Savannah Georgia from South Carolina on highway 17 you will get a great view of the “Talmadge memorial bridge.”  From a distance, the bridge looks like it has multiple sails on top of it, but up close you see that it is because it has cables that form triangles.  In my opinion, it is a great view.  The bridge goes over the Savannah and Little Back Rivers, which are on the Georgia and South Carolina border.  It is definitely worth seeing if you go to Savannah.

Tybee Island was by far my favorite part of Savannah.  Not only did it have a tropical feel that makes it very easy to forget that you are still in the United States, it is also a place where you could be happy living for a while.  Just rent a place down by the beach.  It would definitely be a great place for you if you don’t mind a more relaxed atmosphere.  There were a lot of jeeps on that island, and even a teenage boy on a skateboard.  Be careful if you’re driving though, because the boy on the skateboard didn’t stop, he went right in front of our vehicle as we were moving forward and did the same thing for another vehicle backing out of a parking spot down the road.

In all though I had a really great time on Tybee Island, and I really want to go back.  I’m sure you will like it as well.  In my opinion, the best place on the Island to be is the South-East portion of it, just follow 80 all the way.  There are lots of Island together there and it is sometimes hard to tell where one ends and another begins if you are looking on a map.  Tybee Island is the one that extends east the most, and is just south of the Georgia and South Carolina border.

Savannah has lots of parks that are worth seeing.  I only went to two of them though, “Emmet park” and “Forsyth park.”  Both of them are worth seeing, but Forsyth park was my favorite because it has a huge water fountain to see (not the drinking kind) and a huge memorial.  You will not be disappointed by going to Forsyth park.  The funny thing is that when I was there I was thinking “it feels like I’m in Georgia,” then I realized “oh ya, I am in Georgia.”  The other park, Emmet park is worth seeing as well.  It has lots of memorials to see as well and it is on the Savannah river river front.  There is shops to go to there if that’s your thing.

I also went to the Oglethorpe mall in Savannah, that’s right, I went to a mall, what was I thinking.  It wasn’t that bad though.  It is a good size mall and I got to eat lunch at a fast food place that I’ve never been to before, and the portions of the food were insanely large.

In closing, I am really glad I went to Savannah Georgia, even though I was only there for a couple of days.  It was a great place to go and I definitely want to go back there, next time I will have to stay on Tybee Island for sure to experience more of what it has to offer.
